ZHAO Renhui is an emerging Singaporean visial artist, his art practice involves photography, performance, video and Installation.
Creatures are always appeared in an austere background in Renhui’s photography, bring to mind the weakness and morebidness of the nature which developed in human‘s rules. The using of monocolor make the picture so jellied that take your breath and has the enchantment of eliminating all distractions.
ZHAO Renhui is an artist but also plays part of an ecologist and a zoologist, In the series“ A heartwarming feeling”, a few thousand migratory birds were ringed with mini-pinhole cameras at their feet to document the mysterious migration that caused their death. In" glacier study group", he devoted himself to the North Pole’s extreme environment and witnessed the whole process of how an enormous glacier receded by more than a third of its volume.
The compatibility of poetry and science make ZHAO Renhui’s works distinctive. Among many accolades, he has been awarded The Deutsche Bank Award in Photography (2011) University of the Arts London and The Young Artist Award by the Singapore National Arts Council (2010). He was nominated for Discovery Award, les Rencontres d'Arles de la photographie (2015).
